Professor Kelvin Tsoi was invited to give the keynote lecture at The Hong Kong Medical Association (HKMA) Men's Health Week: Digital Health Innovation for Men’s Health and joined the Round Table Discussion on Innovation for Men’s Health on November 16, 2020. Professor Kelvin Tsoi was Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Symposium on Digital Health 2020 Webinar, held on December 4, 2020. The event connected experts from healthcare and engineering sectors in the world and promoting interdisciplinary research in Digital Health. Dr. Ashley McKimm, Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Innovations and Mr. Steve Davis, Co-Chair of Digital Health Technical Advisory Group from the World Health Organization, were invited as Keynote speakers.

Professor Helen Meng served as General Chair in the organization of INTERSPEECH 2020 (IS2020), the world’s flagship conference in the area of speech science and technology. IS2020 was planned to take place in Shanghai in October 2020, but eventually was re-organized as a virtual conference, which drew a record number of over 20,000 attendees

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), the world’s premier association for signal processing engineers and industry professions, award Professor Helen Meng the Leo L. Beranek Meritorious Service Award, in recognition of her exemplary service to and leadership in the SPS. The award was planned to be presented in Barcelona, Spain at ICASSP 2020, the world’s largest and most comprehensive technical conference on signal processing.

Professors Joseph Sung, Helen Meng and Steve Yim were invited to give public lectures at the 2020 Dr. Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation Symposium in January 2020. Their respective talks are entitled: “Artificial Intelligence: Are We Prepared for the Future of Medicine,” “Artificial Intelligence in Extraction and Identification of Spoken Language Biomarkers for Screening and Monitoring of Neurocognitive Disorders” and “Air, Mosquito and Health: a study on the Greater Bay Area".

Professor Joseph Sung was awarded Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher 2020 (for the third consecutive year since 2018). This is the recognition of the top 1% researchers in the world for the frequency of citation of his/her publication.

Professor Joseph Sung was awarded State Natural Science Award 2020 with Professor Jun Yu, Vincent Wong and Xiang Zhang for their innovations in cancer screening and biomarker development.
